I sat glued to the news for six hours on Friday night. We watched, with the rest of the world, in horror and sadness as the terror unraveled in Paris. For the first time in my life I felt physically ill at the sights and sounds on the screen in front of me. I shed a handful of uncontrolled tears before finally caving to sleep. But it was only in the fog of Saturday morning waking that I recognized a few beautiful moments amidst the mess: the ‘safety check’ on Facebook, alerting us to friends’ statuses abroad; a designated Twitter hashtag for stranded Parisians to find cover; an endless array of #prayforparis images on Instagram. Whether having immediate benefits or just showing camaraderie, each post carried with it an ounce of strength.
I wanted to do a little outfit tribute to the “City of Love.” An embroidered floral mini dress paired with vintage fur and patent pumps felt like the best marriage of old world vintage and new world feistiness. So, this Monday morning, we’re all standing with Paris.
