I have always loved the chignon hairstyle. It’s such a feminine, elegant, yet beautifully modern option. Also, it’s never too dressy OR underdressed (not many styles can claim that). But this was my first time attempting it. I felt suddenly empowered for a challenge when I got this simplehuman mirror. I know, it’s just a mirror, right? So here’s a step-by-step guide to creating the modern chic chignon just in time for wedding season.

Step 1: Using a comb, section your hair from ear-to-ear across the crown of your head. Use clips to pin the front sections forward and out of the way.

Step 2: Collect the back section of hair and secure with an elastic at the nape of your neck.

Step 3: Gently separate the hair in equal parts just above the elastic. Pull the ponytail through the opening to create a twist.

Step 5: Gently tease the ponytail to create volume. Roll the end of the ponytail inward and toward your head, forming a cylinder shape. Secure the cylinder against your head with bobby pins.

Step 6: Remove clips from the front sections of hair. Twist back each side and secure to the chignon (this part can also help hide the elastic if any part still shows).
