Over the past ten years or so, trends in fashion have gotten a lot more forgiving. There are fewer rules: you can wear white after labor day, blue + black is not a faux pas, and denim on denim is no longer the Canadian tuxedo. Coming on board with this style freedom is the mixing of whites. Pairing different shades is kind of tricky business, but when done well it’s sophisticated and classic. My baseline rule for this head-to-(almost)-toe look is pairing different textures or fabrics. It makes each piece look intentional rather than seeming like I misjudged the color shading. So with spring starting this week, San Francisco in a few days, and temps breaking into the forties, my whites are front and center for the season.
