owlet smart sock – parenting peace of mind

reviewing the owlet smart sock baby tech product for parenting peace of mindWhen we first started compiling our baby registry I felt overwhelmed. The amount of stuff out there had my head spinning. Ultimately, I looked to include highly-rated, safety conscious, items that would (if possible) suit our more minimalist aesthetic. Yet hours of research opened up a whole new world of baby tech products I previously knew nothing about. It was then that a bit of panic and sticker shock set in: What of this do I actually need? Is it an unnecessary gimmick? How can I be sure the price is worth the reward? Because, as E will tell you, I can go rather trigger happy with the ‘purchase now’ button if I convince myself something is credible. Plus, first-time parenting has put that instinct into hyperdrive. But one product stood out to me from the very beginning: enter, owlet smart sock.

Long before kids were on our radar, I learned of their company via this fellow blogger. Immediately the concept struck me as brilliant (but it was irrelevant at the time). So getting reintroduced to their technology in this stage of life was a game changer. It was actually the first thing on our registry and the one thing I said to E was a ‘non- negotiable essential.’ This owlet smart sock tracks baby’s oxygen + heart rate. It works wirelessly and connects right to your smartphone offering parents the ability to track their little nugget’s levels. Going one step further, it then is designed to notify parents if those levels are outside the preset zones.

Now, I’ll be honest, it’s hard for me to imagine actually going to sleep the first few nights after baby boy is born. Those thoughts stem from imagining something will go wrong if I’m not actively watching him. But, for the sake of our whole family, I know sleep deprivation and obsessive fear won’t be healthy. So the very next best thing is this little mint-colored bootie velcroed to his foot (and they just announced the availability of pink and blue socks – see them here). Their tagline couldn’t be more perfect: “Up all night so you don’t have to be.” It’s the peace we’ve been craving for our first-time parents’ syndrome. Along with diapers, a car seat, and swaddling blankets, I’m ranking this as my top priority for welcoming baby boy Musser into our home. Just a few weeks more and I’ll (hopefully) get some shuteye while owlet smart sock does the rest.
