I spent years begrudging my experiences with New York City. Based primarily on school trips and tourist visits, I formed a pretty sour opinion of the place: it’s smelly, unfriendly, and seriously cramped. And those things are still definitely true–but only of some parts, I’ve learned. Spending time exploring the city with people who actually live there makes all the difference.
I spent this past weekend falling in love with the West side: boutiques stocked with summer outfits, bodegas bursting with fresh produce, and flower markets begging for takers. The weather was perfect for flip-flops and jeans. I chose a light silk top and dark wash denim for an easy, walking outfit. Keeping in line with city style, a pop of neon put the finishing touch on the laid-back look.
Traveler’s Tip: go to the original Magnolia Bakery and find your way to a rooftop view.
