building a wardrobe

I have had a number of questions recently about how to update/build/rebuild your wardrobe. When stores and brands are constantly getting new products and focusing on the coming season, that can seem overwhelming. How much does it take to complete a wardrobe? When do I have enough to work with? How do I have a good wardrobe without going into debt? I decided to answer these various questions with an all-inclusive post.

Let me start off by saying, your wardrobe basics will be an investment. That’s important. When you expect an item to last years and lots of wears, it needs to be high quality. These are not the pieces to skimp on. So if you have to start a little clothing fund and practice patience, it will be worth it in the end! Once this foundation is set, it is simple to accessorize with less expensive items and seasonal accents.

Here are my top eleven items to start (and sustain) a versatile wardrobe for any body type:

1. black blazer, AYR
2. dark wash bootcut denim, Citizens of Humanity
3. LBD, Zara
4. neutral clutch, BCBG
5. white blouse, Alice and Olivia
6. black flats, Regina Frye
7. cardigan, Browns Fashion
8. trousers, Zara
9. nude pumps, Stuart Weitzman
10. pencil skirt, Classiques Entier
11. simple chain necklace, Neiman Marcus
Take these mix-and-match essentials, add seasonal pops of color, and enjoy a wardrobe
that is never going out of style.
