family room from Article

Moving into our new home has been sheer chaos and major delight. I’d rate it a solid 2/10 to move with four kids under the age of seven. But, we’re finding our place and (more fun for me) getting to the decorating part. To be transparent, we tripled our square footage. It’s been an incredible blessing beyond our wildest dreams. We adored our old house but knew it couldn’t last through the kids growing-up years. With that said, I still wanted to create a central space for everyone to gather. The family room has to balance kid-friendly with adult-ish. So that was my goal in working with Article.

I’m a longtime fangirl of Article. Honestly, it’s like they do no wrong. Their prices are accessible, their quality is top-tier, and everyone from customer service down to delivery men are delightful. Whenever I create a vision for our home space I browse their website, create a moodboard, and work from there.

I shared in my Instagram highlights the floor transformation in our home. That was priority number one in my book. The dark floors just felt heavier than I cared for and not aligning with our style. So we sanded them down to their natural red oak finish and covered with a natural, clear stain. And, not to toot my own horn, but that’s been one of the best design decisions I’ve ever made. It was not a cheap process, but we knew it had to be done ‘now or never’ before we moved in completely.

Alright, so I’ve got this gorgeous blank canvas of a space that I want to fill but not clutter. I want to incorporate new pieces while reusing available items from our old home. And, is it weird that I share our kids are all compulsive snugglers? Like, every kid we have we say, “I bet this one won’t be as cuddly as X” and we’re proven wrong. Mostly that’s adorable and precious (except for those overstimulating moments where I’d rather lock myself in the bathroom). But it means we had to up our sofa came to accommodate said snuggles.

Article has a huge selection of sofas and sectionals. So, to narrow it down, I went through features and fabrics to find what best suited our needs: oversized width, deep cushions, cleanable fabric, fits our aesthetic. I landed on the Leigh Modular Sectional. It’s not as low to the ground as other cloud-like sectionals making it more practical. The pieces are moveable and lightweight with cushions removed. As my kids immediately confirmed, the cushions are firm to start but soften with jumping.

The second piece of our family room puzzle was accent chairs. Sometimes I feel decision paralysis when it comes to furniture. It’s a big investment and (hopefully) not one we’re going to switch out any time soon. But that makes it high stakes. And I admittedly fit into the ‘beige aesthetic’ category yet forced myself into color. I fell in love with the fabric and colorway of this Regis Lounge Chair. The green is timeless while the lines are modern. They’re buttery soft to the touch and hug your rear in the best way possible.

Adding textures with pillows and blankets finalized the family room for us. Those elements brought both character and charm. So with that, we’re just in time to host Thanksgiving and offer plenty of space for those post-turkey snoozes.

Thank you to Article for partnering with us on this post.
