the hostess ensemble

[Trina Turk dress, Steve Madden heels, Banana Republic necklace, Albeit ‘Dahlia‘ lipstick]
One of my favorite things in the world is being a hostess. My home growing up was always the central watering hole for all our friends (mom and dad were saints about that). So having a house of our own has made me want to carry on the tradition even more. From Oscars parties to Cookie Swaps, I love filling the house with good friends, great food, and craft cocktails. Dressing the part of “hostess” can sometimes feel overwhelming, though. Either it’s the last thing on your mind after cleaning and cooking or it’s all-consuming since it sets the tone for the party. So unless it’s noted on the invite, I like to stick with a simple silhouette dress and heels. This lets me easily play off the guests if I feel too dressy (swap the heels for flats) or under-dressed (add a statement necklace).
