Every year for Thanksgiving I like to add an element of personalization to the table. So this time around I settled on these easy DIY watercolor placecards with a modern, ombre effect. They’re both functional and festive as well as easy to customize based on your color palette. For the final touch I added an optional sprig of foliage to each plate for that rustic feel.
Supplies
- 2 large pieces of thick watercolor paper
- choice of watercolors (I used two shades of blue + one shade of purple)
- 2 cups or bowls to fit card size
- paper towels for trying
- calligraphy or fine tip marker
Instructions
- Cut or tear paper into desired size
- Mix your watercolor in each dish or container (I mixed two colors to create an ombre look)
- Dip into the lightest watercolor first for 30-60 seconds
- Remove and let dry on a paper towel
- Once the first layer has dried, dip into the darker pigment but only about halfway up to create an ombre effect
- Leave in for 60-90 seconds
- Let each piece dry completely
- Calligraph the names of your guests
