a native’s guide to san francisco

Tienlyn Jacobson San Francisco fashion blogger

I know it’s slightly ironic to write an extra post when we’re on vacation (not exactly vacating this space). But I wanted to give you a glimpse into what our weekend holds. When I travel to any new city, I hope to see it from the local’s perspective. Even though we’re hitting the major tourist spots (Golden Gate Bridge, Pink Ladies, Ghirardelli Square), I also want those little nooks only natives know about. So I reached out to San Francisco lifestyle blogger Tienlyn Jacobson of Thoughtful Misfit to get all the details of her favorite spots. We made our own bucket list from these suggestions and plan to track them down today and tomorrow. Hop over to her blog for more stunning photos, travel tips, and beauty guides.

What is your favorite weekend spot in San Francisco?
Weirdly, the area right around Ghirardelli Square. It’s totally touristy and kind of geeky but it’s also one of the most gorgeous areas with some of the most breathtaking views. Plus, there’s a beach and some really interesting characters!

What is your go-to place for fashion finds?
In SF, I love Rand & Statler. It’s so well curated, I can’t stand it! Azalea SF is also good and right next door. And finally, Jeremy’s is probably my number one stop when I just want to discover something new and unique – it has an incredible selection of consigned designer pieces that are very one-of-a-kind.

What is one thing every visitor to San Francisco needs to do?
Go to South Park in Soma. It’s like a little world all in its own. Oh and one more. Hit up Dolores Park on a sunny day. It’s madness but in a really cool way! Plus it has a great view of the city.

Where is the best place to get a cup of coffee in SF?
There’s a LOT. I really like Blue Bottle on 18th – the space is pretty cool too. But I’m in that area all the time so maybe I’m biased. But to be honest, some of the best coffee comes from little hole-in-the-wall places you didn’t even know existed. Good coffee is everywhere!

What are your two favorite outdoor activities in the city?
My husband and I love walking so we take long walks on the beach, as cliche as that might sound. Our favorite walk starts in the Sunset on the beach and then we head up towards the Cliff House, past the Sutro Baths and the across Sea Cliff to China Basin. It’s so long and there’s so much along the way that I’m going to count that as two things!

Where is the best flea market and flower market?
Best Flea Market is definitely the Alameda Flea Market. You could furnish your house and accessorize your wardrobe. Plus, it’s huge. It’s a full day event.
